CopiOs Sponge Bone Void Filler: Engineering a Microenvironment Conducive for Bone Growth

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Composites of purified collagen and calcium phosphate salts have been widely used to produce osteoconductive scaffolds for fracture healing and spinal fusion. The effects of different calcium phosphate additives in a collagen scaffold was previously investigated in a rat model of ectopic bone formation induced by a mixture of bovine bone derived growth factors. It was found that osteoinductivity was significantly enhanced by moderately acidic dibasic calcium phosphate salts but inhibited by hydroxyapatite and -tricalcium phosphate [1]. In this study, the efficacy of a novel bone graft substitute CopiOs Sponge Bone Void Filler (composite of collagen and dibasic calcium phosphate) was studied in a rabbit radial critical size segmental defect model to compare with autograft and the predicate device Healos II Bone Graft Substitute (BGS).

Subchondral Insufficiency Fracture of the Femoral Head Treated with Core Decompression and Bone Void Filler Support

Subchondral insufficiency fracture of the femoral head (SIFFH) is characterized by acute onset hip pain without overt trauma. It appears as a low intensity band with bone marrow edema on T1-weighted MRI. The most common course of treatment is protected weight bearing for a period of several weeks. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been commonly used if the patient does not respond to the initial...

Hydroxyapatite/collagen bone-like nanocomposite.

Our group has succeeded to synthesize material with bone-like nanostructure and bone-like inorganic and organic composition via self-organization mechanism between them using simultaneous titration method under controlled pH and temperature. The hydroxyapatite/collagen (HAp/Col) bone-like nanocomposite completely incorporated into bone remodeling process to be substituted by new bone. Cells cul...

Demineralized Bone Matrix (DBM) as a Bone Void Filler in Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Prospective Pilot Study of Simultaneous DBM and Autologous Bone Grafts

OBJECTIVE Solid bone fusion is an essential process in spinal stabilization surgery. Recently, as several minimally invasive spinal surgeries have developed, a need of artificial bone substitutes such as demineralized bone matrix (DBM), has arisen. We investigated the in vivo bone growth rate of DBM as a bone void filler compared to a local autologous bone grafts. METHODS From April 2014 to A...

CERAMENT treatment of fracture defects (CERTiFy): protocol for a prospective, multicenter, randomized study investigating the use of CERAMENT™ BONE VOID FILLER in tibial plateau fractures

BACKGROUND Bone graft substitutes are widely used for reconstruction of posttraumatic bone defects. However, their clinical significance in comparison to autologous bone grafting, the gold-standard in reconstruction of larger bone defects, still remains under debate. This prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study investigates the differences in pain, quality of life, and cost of care i...

Effect of Calcium Sulphate on a Tibial Defect and Modulation with a Bisphosphonate

INTRODUCTION: Many bone graft substitutes have become available to assist in increasing healing rates and decrease donor site morbidity resulting from orthopaedic procedures. Calcium sulfate is a widely used bone graft substitute, and is now available as a bone void filler as well as in pellets. We wished to examine: 1. The effect of a solid calcium sulphate cylinder in an intercalary defect in...
